DIY Body Butter

Now that we are in the heart of winter; cold, dry weather is a common cause of dry, itchy skin. This beautiful body butter is thick, rich and moisturizing and is great for extremely dry skin. It can also help with skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

You will need:

  • ½ cup of mango or cocoa butter
  • ½ cup of coconut oil
  • Saucepan and glass bowl or double boiler
  • Stick mixer or blender
  • 4 tablespoons of aloe vera gel
  • 1 tablespoon shea butter
  • 1 tablespoon of rosehip oil
  • 1 tablespoon of jojoba oil
  • ¼ teaspoon of vitamin E oil
  • 25 drops of essential oil (I like to use lavender)
  • Wide mouth jar with lid

Instructions:

  1. Melt the cocoa or mango butter and coconut oil on low heat in the double boiler, stirring occasionally until they have completely melted.
  2. Mix in the remaining ingredients.
  3. Remove the pot from the heat and mix the ingredients thoroughly using mixer or blender.
  4. Transfer the mixture into the jar. It will solidify slowly over a few days.

This body butter is amazing when applied just after having a bath or shower. It helps to seal the moisture in. I’m 8 months pregnant and have been using this body butter on my growing belly. It keeps my stretching skin very moisturized and I have not had any stretch marks yet. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do :)

This spring we have been gifted with our first decent bloom of elderflowers, inspiring us to  make some delicious infused honey.  Elder flower has been traditionally used for centuries as medicine to help with common colds, sinusitis and hayfever just to name a few. We love honey so why not make it with a twist, enriching flavours and boosting the immune enhancing properties.
