DIY Detox Face Mask

When using skincare and household products, we have always opted for natural ingredients. Products that are not packed with toxic, harsh chemicals. Chemicals that are used over time can cause short and long-term health problems. This option is not always the cheapest, so over the past year I have started experimenting and making our own natural products. It is easy, cost-effective and the results are astonishing.

This detoxifying face mask is one of my favourites. It is an amazing pore minimising mask that helps to draw out toxins and impurities from your skin. This mask helps to brighten and balance the skins natural oils, leaving your skin feeling fresh, replenished and rejuvenated.

It is made up of ground lavender, calendula, rose, activated charcoal and bentonite clay.

Lavender has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that can fight the bacteria that cause acne and inflammation. It contains powerful antioxidants that can fight against the harmful effects of pollutants on the skin. It restores the skin complexion and can help to improve eczema and psoriasis.

Calendula is an antiseptic and helps to promote rapid cell regrowth. It can also help to reduce inflammation that skin ailments can cause. Rose is astringent and helps to tone the skin which is great for minimising the pores and maintaining healthy radiant skin.

Activated charcoal, when used as a face mask, helps to pull the toxins and impurities from your pores making them smaller and cleaner, leaving your face to feel fresh and radiant. It helps to treat acne by deeply cleaning your skin and balancing your natural oils. It can help to slow ageing with its powerful antioxidant healing properties.

Bentonite clay is a very powerful detoxifying and healing clay that contains over 70 trace minerals that are essential to our health. It is excellent for drawing oils and toxins from the skin and body.

This combination of ingredients is a powerful concoction with amazing results. I like to make a good-sized batch at one time so it will last me a while. It also can make a wonderful gift for loved ones.

The Ingredients:

2 Tbs of Ground Herbs
2 Tbs of Activated Charcoal
1 Cup of Bentonite Clay

1 Bowl, 1 Container with Lid

  • Mix the ingredients thoroughly together in the bowl and put into a container.

To Use:

Place 1-2 Tablespoons of clay in a bowl and activate it with a small amount of water (about 1-2tbs). Mix together with your fingers and apply to your cleansed face and neck in a circular motion. Allow the mask to dry and leave on for about 15mins. Rinse off with warm water and moisturise as needed.

I like to use this mask once a week. Hope you enjoy :)

This pregnancy I have had a ravenous sweet tooth, so choosing the healthiest option to satisfy my cravings is top priority. We love making and eating raw desserts. The kids have fun helping me and it is such an enjoyable way to get creative with healthy ingredients. We tend to work with seasonal fruits and what’s in our pantry.  There are blue berries and strawberries galore at the moment, inspiring this yummy bake free creation.

This spring we have been gifted with our first decent bloom of elderflowers, inspiring us to  make some delicious infused honey.  Elder flower has been traditionally used for centuries as medicine to help with common colds, sinusitis and hayfever just to name a few. We love honey so why not make it with a twist, enriching flavours and boosting the immune enhancing properties.
